Argentina have their sights firmly set on World Cup victory

Not since iconic Diego Maradona lifted the glittering golden trophy, has Argentina won the biggest in football. Back in 1986 he was the talk of the tournament, the man who practically single-handedly (no pun intended) led his team to World Cup glory. There was the infamous handball against England, bit also the best goal of the competition against the same rival.

The virtuoso displays of Maradona were pivotal throughout the 1986 tournament, right through to the memorable 3-2 final triumph against West Germany. Argentina reached the final again in 1990, although not even Maradona could prevent the Germans from getting their revenge, as they edged a narrow 1-0 victory.

Argentina wouldn’t reach another World Cup final until 2014 in Brazil, as the global game was wowed by the successor to the legacy of Maradona, a certain Lionel Messi. Yet even his phenomenal skill couldn’t change the outcome, as once again, the Argentine side was agonisingly beaten 1-0 in extra-time, which Messi hasn’t forgotten.

But after suffering such a painful defeat at the very last hurdle, then enduring the disappointment of elimination to France in the Round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup, many had begun to believe that Messi would never match the legacy of Maradona. That is until now, given that Argentina are one of the most in-form teams heading into the 2022 World Cup.

Messi will be key ingredient for success

Whenever most football fans think of Argentina these days, there is one name that inevitably springs to mind. Much of the current generation of supporters have grown up with the success of Lionel Messi, the magnificent maestro who has dazzled the beautiful game with his wonderful ability. His influence will also be priceless towards the chances of his national team.

Fair to say that Messi has a multitude of millions following his every move, fanatical fandom which is fascinated by his remarkable natural talent. He is a unique individual and one of the favourites to win the Golden Boot, the individual honour bestowed to the highest scorer at the World Cup, which is an objective that could be capable of achieving.

At many of the leading sportsbooks, Messi is tipped to be in with a good shout of topping the scoring charts. This is particularly the case amongst oddsmakers at the top international gambling and gaming sites, including the best online football betting known as เว็บพนันบอลที่ดีที่สุด in Thailand and throughout the Asian continent, backed by trusted reviews and where great value promotions can be found.

Can the Argentine team really go all the way?

There are numerous variables that can affect performances, although heading into the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the form of Argentina over the last few years has been nothing short of spectacular. Indeed, La Albiceleste has not suffered a single defeat since July 2019 against Brazil, who are also the favourites to win the upcoming World Cup tournament.

Given that Argentina has remained undefeated in more than 30 matches, including a monumental 1-0 victory against Brazil in the 2021 Copa America final, which finally brought Messi his first ever major trophy with the national team. That long-awaited triumph delighted the whole country, and actually served to increase expectations ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

But no matter how fantastic Messi may be individually, actually winning the World Cup is an exceptionally difficult challenge to accomplish, which means he will also need to be surrounded by quality. Fortunately for current Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni, who masterminded the Copa America success, he has an outstanding selection of players to choose from.

In fact, it’s fair to say that when it comes to first-choice options and cover available in every position, Argentina will head into the 2022 World Cup with one of the strongest squads at the tournament. This puts Messi in really good company, while confidence also seems to be high as the team prepares to reach for the stars in Qatar, ready to take on and beat every rival they face on their path to the biggest prize in football.
