Who Are the Best Three Golfers in The World?

The world’s leading golfers will be very excited by the opportunities available to them in 2022, as they get four more shots at winning a Major Championship, with the US Masters, the first of those big events with plenty more to look ahead to in the year.

Here is a look at who the best three golfers are at the moment, according to the world golf rankings, and how they have managed to climb up to their current position.

Jon Rahm (1st)

Spaniard Jon Rahm has been the stand-out player in world golf over the last 12 months. Not only did he win the 2021 US Open, his first Major Championship, he finished inside the top 10 of all four majors last year.

Rahm also made the cut in 24 of the 25 tournaments he entered in 2021, another sign of how consistent he was in the sport. All areas of his game held up well to the challenges of the PGA Tour.

The world number one is the +800 favorite in the Masters 2022 odds for Augusta. He has been inside the top 10 at Augusta in each of the last four years, including in 2021 when he was fifth. The Arizona State graduate will be hopeful of adding to his major tally in Georgia. Naturally, many to see his Rahm deliver the result needed to come out on top.

Collin Morikawa (2nd)

World number two Collin Morikawa made history in 2021 as he became the first American to win the European Tour’s Race to Dubai. He secured that prize after landing the DP World Tour Championship.

Morikawa was successful three times in 2021. He prevailed in the WGC-Workday Championship in April. A second round of 64 helped him to secure the trophy in Florida. The Californian then won his second major, prevailing at the Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Club.

The five-time PGA Tour winner will have his sights on the number one spot in the world rankings in 2022. If he plays as well as he did last year, he will have an excellent chance of topping the standings for the first time in his career.

Viktor Hovland (3rd)

One of the biggest climbers in the top 10 of the world rankings over the last 12 months has been Viktor Hovland. The Norwegian is now up to third, following an excellent start to the new season.

From November 2021 through to January 2022, Hovland was successful in two events. He won the 2021 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, while more recently, he prevailed in the Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour.

Hovland has yet to finish inside the top 10 in a Major Championship, so he will be hoping to perform much better in the big four tournaments in 2022. When he tees off at Augusta, it will be just his third appearance in the Masters, his second as a professional.

The 24-year-old has been one of the rising stars of the sport. Many have tipped him to be a world number one over the next couple of years. He is now very close to landing that top spot.

With so many of the world’s best players in good form in 2022, it is going to be fascinating to see what the world rankings look like at the end of the season. It should make for good watching either way.
