What is Golf Tempo?

Golf tempo refers to the speed at which you perform your actions. Let’s say, for example, that you hit two shots in a row, standing to the right of the golf ball. If you take too long to decide on the next shot, you might hit the shot badly. But, on the other hand, if your tempo is well-balanced and consistent, you will hit good shots.

You can think about golf tempo in three different ways. The first is how quickly you make your backswing. The second is how quickly you make your downswing, and the third is the time from when you begin your forward swing to when you finish it.

The Importance of Golf Tempo

Start with your club squared up and facing the ball for the warm-up. Your club should be moving through both square and open positions simultaneously. First, take a few swings using a wide, open club face. Immediately after that, take the same swing, except this time, use the same motion as if you were going to hit a ball on the fairway.

Put yourself in the same position as you did in the warm-up for your cool-down. Then, make a backswing that is slow and smooth. Keep the same tempo from your backswing going into your forward swing when you come down. Make sure that you bring both motions together to make one smooth motion.
